What to Wear: NYE 2021

NYE approaches. While yours truly wore jeans and a sweater for NYE 2019 and went to bed at 10 PM in 2020, I am looking forward for an opportunity to get dressed up (and stay up!) again for 2021!

If you're anything like us, as soirees have started back up over the last six months, you've found yourself wondering one (or all) of the following:

"What do I wear?!"

"What is even in style anymore?"

"What is MY style?"

To help inspire you, we rounded up some of the trends we are seeing for NYE 2021. Will we include some Frankly pieces? Of course. But we will also include our faves from other brands, as well!

Our number one recommendation for NYE is to choose the ONE piece that you really love and build your entire ensemble around it. That might be a dress or a jumpsuit or it could be an amazing shoe or pair of earrings. Once you choose the focal point, everything else falls into place so much more easily.

TEXTURE, TEXTURE, TEXTURE

Velvet, feathers, and fringe, oh my! Texture is the name of the game this winter, and NYE is no exception. The amazing thing about using texture is that it gives that bit of uniqueness without adding discomfort - a necessity in a WFH world.  Feathers, fringe, and velvet seem to be the most used textural elements on the runway right now, but they certainly aren't the only options. If you're less sold on a textured outfit, great place to experiment is with your outerwear. Here's what we're loving:

Frankly, Tiffany velvet bodysuit, $90

VOLUME & LAYERS

Try an architectural shoulder, a tiered skirt, or an oversized ruffle for added interest.  It's important to remember that such elements should be used sparingly for maximum effect. While you can and should play with color and texture, consider keeping the remainder of the silhouette itself more simple.  If you're looking to soften the focus on any given layer or feature, try a translucent material. A few examples to inspire and delight:

Frankly, Renata bodysuit, $98

Badgley Mischka, Velvet Bow Front Dress, RTR

BOLD STATEMENT COLORS

The LBD may be the classic choice for NYE, but color will make you stand out. If you choose to stick to a sleek, black silhouette, opt for a bold shoe, bag, or necklace. Or you can go the opposite direction and choose an electric monochrome look that is sure to be one of a kind. Here are a few of our favorites:

Frankly, Rachel dress, $178

Lulus, Power of Love Jumpsuit, $64

SPARKLE & SHINE

OK, let's be honest, sequins are a perennial favorite for midnight fireworks. You can certainly expect to see many a colorfully sequined bodycon dress out on the dance floor. But may we urge you to consider a more subtle shine this holiday season?! Try all black sequins or a metallic threaded ensemble. And remember, a little sparkle goes a long way. Understated jewelry and more neutral makeup will help you statement piece pop! A few things we're seeing this season:

Counting down the days to the ball drop countdown,

Heather and Jane
